Now more than ever, documentary films and filmmakers are in a crucial position to respond to and resist societal injustices. But how can documentaries most effectively speak truth to power? And what is the role of artfulness and ambiguity in media activism? Additionally, when social issue documentaries run the risk of preaching to the choir, what are the ways nonfiction films can bridge cultural divisions and bring people together? Gathering together top experts in the documentary world, this panel aims to address the ways in which documentaries and the documentary industry are dealing with our highly divisive political climate and looking for ways to make a positive change.

Panelists: Lisa Chanoff (Catapult Film Fund), Sabaah Folayan ("Whose Streets?"), Shaul Schwarz ("Trophy"), Gordon Quinn (Kartemquin Films), and Damon Davis
